Jesus said in John 3:19-20, “This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. (20) Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed.” Truly the world is totally controlled and overpowered by darkness, by the power of the devil, demons, death and the hell. Everyone has been totally locked up in darkness since the Fall. Jesus said that Satan is the father of all lies. Since the Fall the world has been totally deceived by the devil and will be continually so. The world is full of the pitch-black darkness because of the satanic deception. Look at the Jihadist movement where satanic and serial killers are continually produced. Billions of people are deceived by Islamic religion to go to the hell. Many heretic and cultic religions are misleading innumerable people astray from Jesus Christ to damnation. Paganism or Satan-worship is rampant in modern society. Therefore, the apostle Paul talked about the human souls locked up in darkness in Ephesians 2:1-3, “As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, (2) in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the rulers of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient. (3) All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our sinful nature and following its desires and thoughts like the rest. Like the rest, we were by nature objects of wrath.
As I said in the last devotion, Jesus is the light. The world is darkness. Darkness can never become light by itself. The free will is part of the world. Therefore, the free will is also darkness. The free will can never become light by itself. The decision of the free will is darkness thus can never become light by itself. Faith is the decision of the free will. Faith is the supernatural gift of the Holy Spirit. The decision of the free will is only the gate or the channel through which faith, light, salvation or the Holy Spirit comes to us. Darkness is overcome only by the light, Jesus Christ. Therefore, the decision of the free will is neither a credit nor a contribution for our salvation. There is no salvation in the world. Salvation comes to us from outside the world. Salvation comes to us from the light, Jesus Christ. The decision of the free will is neither the light nor faith. Paul the apostle said in Ephesians 2:4-7, “(4) But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, (5) made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions-it is by grace you have been saved. (6) And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, (7) in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus.”
