Professional athletes always live in competition. They clearly know who their rivals are and
ceaselessly try to find a way to defeat their rivals. Now, the final soccer game between South Korea and Japan ended up Korea’s victory of 2:1 in 2018-Asian Game. The spectrum of games or competitions is wide and various from the simple game for entertainment to serious competitions in athletics. There is also the game or warfare of life or death.
Someone said that American churches are like a sleeping giant. They are spiritually sleeping,
even though they are ceaselessly attacked by enemies and engaged in the warfare of life or
death in winning souls into the kingdom of God or not. The apostle Paul says in Ephesians 6:12:
“For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world, and against the spiritual forces in the heavenly realms.” He is saying that we Christians are ceaselessly engaged in the warfare of life or death against the devil’s schemes. We Christians are always, not intermittently, engaged in the warfare of life or death against the rulers, against the authorities, against the power of this dark world, and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms, not against flesh and blood. Christians’ main war is neither the intellectual war nor the economic war nor the human war nor the physical war nor the military war. Their main war is the spiritual warfare of life or death with which flesh and blood have nothing to do. Therefore, the Reformer Martin Luther said, “For still our ancient foe, the devil, does seek to work us woe; his crafts and power are great; and armed with cruel hate, on earth is not his equal.” Are we really alarmed, awakened, prepared, and bravely put into action in the spiritual warfare?
